A word that so many people are afraid of. And to be frank, it makes me a bit nervous depending on the circumstance.

“You are never too old to take risks, and it’s never too late to pivot. You can change your mind, change direction, and change mission.”

– Luvvie AJAYI JONES

I guess you can call me the ultimate career risk-taker. I’ve moved across the country 5 times and now I have crossed the northern international border. I’ve “pivoted” careers 4 times, and one thing I can count on is the perplexed look I receive when people look at my resume. But honestly…every move was intentional, and every move had purpose. I have been able to leverage transferable skills in every move, and I have expanded my tribe at every stop. I say all that to say that change is scary…but if it wasn’t, everyone would do it without hesitation. Those who embrace it, are those who continue to lead AND be unapologetic about it. It took years for my family and friends to understand what I do for a living and frankly half of them still don’t know. Honestly, I’m tired of explaining it so if they think I get to hang out with athletes all day…so be it. I collect a nice check plus flight and hotel rewards “to do so.” I’ve stepped out on faith more times than I can count now, and as I continue to walk in my purpose, I will continue to face “change” head-on.

My unsolicited advice: Take the phone call, have the conversation, accept the position… you never know how “change” might change your life… FOR THE BETTER.

Changes I’m currently experiencing:

  • Taking my talents back to Walmart (we have a not storied history…and not in a good way. I’m a Target girl, and Target apparently didn’t cut it here)
  • Understanding the metric system (for reference 100km/hr is NOT that fast on the highway)
  • Processing currency exchanges (I’m frugal…in certain areas, so buying milk for $4.69 CAD did not sit well with me)
  • Lack of structured scheduling – literally everything changes on a whim
  • Catching flights…and I mean sometimes 3 in a week.
  • Dressing UP – that’s a whole blog section in itself!
